Is it just me or did this year fly by? I know now that it is true that the older you get, the faster time goes by. We have been so very blessed this past yr. and although some have had some health set backs, as always, God has seen us through and reminded me of how merciful his grace is! God is good all the time, not just in the times when everything seems to be going great. I am usually not one to make resolutions, but mine this yr is a promise to God, to try and make Him first in my life and others next and to thank Him everyday for his grace and thank Him for my family. I love all of you! Happy New Year!

Well, I finished exams on Wednesday and I did come out with a D in Earth Science! I know that doesn't sound great but it is a lot better than the F I was facing. Thank you for all of the prayers!
Things are great in the Shoals. We had a little snow on the ground this morning. It is very pretty but probably won't stick much longer. Abbi was so excited. She thought she'd get to make a snowman! Oh well....maybe she can make one next time.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hi Fam! Just want to let you all know that I am doing very well since my surgery. God is so good and He is blessing me spiritually as well as physically. I hope you are all looking to Jesus and giving Him the glory for ALL good things in your life!
Love,
Somer

Hi Family,
Just wanted to give a praise report. Somers CT scan turned out great. Dr. said everything looked normal. He increased her anti seizure medication by one pill every other day, and although she was praying that he was going to decrease the medication, we all know God is in control. He did however say that in the months to come, his goal is to ween her completely off of the medicine. Continue to pray for her as she returns to classes in a few weeks. Pray for Kathy and her family and also pray for those who are taking care of the kids. Pray the little ones will be at ease during this time. And pray for David, that God will bless him with energy, peace and comfort. God bless all of you guys! We love you!

Linda Austin - Dec 5, 2001

Somer had another seizure on Monday. She is much better now, as a matter of fact, she is completeing her semester work with her last final today. We are sooo very proud of her. We know her strength and faith is in the Lord. She will be going home for a 30 day rest, and to her dr. for an evaluation.

Gene Autry Hood passed away on Wednesday morning, Dec. 5, 2001

He was surrounded by his wife, children, and two of his brothers, Joe and Paul. His nephews, Gordon and C.R. were also present. He will be greatly missed by this family, but will be spending Christmas with Jesus on HIS BIRTHDAY. I am sure this will be the best Christmas that Gene has ever had, because he will be able to breathe deeply of THAT HEAVENLY AIR, something he hasn't been able to do here on earth for a long time. Please pray for his family. Gene requested for Somer to sing, but this may not be possible, and I know Gene understands, because he has a heavenly choir to sing to him now.

Austinville, Alabama Linda Austin - Dec 21, 2001

The news that we recieved from these last MRIs of Somer is not the news we wanted to hear.We want everyone to know that Somer will be admitted at the big Methodist Hospital in Memphis on Jan. 2 with surgery to be done on Jan. 3. This tumor is bigger than the first one and alittle more toward the mid-frontal area. They will do all they can "to remove it all", with follow-up treatments at St. Judes in Memphis, where she will recieve chemo therapy and radiation treatments. These will be given over a period of time, how long is not clear right now. There are several things about her treatment and condition that is unknown now, but like her parents have said, God Knows, and is on His Throne and in Control.
What we don't know, we won't worry about, we will put this all in God's hands. What we do know is that Somer appreciates our prayers and support, and we know this family will give it. Also, as I spoke to her last week, she really doesn't want to be the topic of every conversation, and she is not physically and emotionally strong enough to discuss this with everyone, so for now, just quiet prayer and concern is probably the best we can offer her and the family. If we can pass this information on to each other, and not have to ask her or the family for every detail, I think this will be best, at least thru this Christmas Season, and PLEASE FOR SOMER'S AND ABBI'S SAKE, AND ABBI, ESPECIALLY, KEEP THE BAD AND SAD NEWS QUIET, ABBI IS SO YOUNG, BUT SHE IS BIG ON UNDERSTANDING AND HER PARENTS WANT TO TELL HER AT THEIR PACE. I KNOW THIS FAMILY WILL UNDERSTAND THIS REQUEST. Hope to see all the Hood's who can attend at Kathy's on Saturday. Dinner abt. 2 with kids gifts around 3:30, and Dirty Santa between 4 and 5. The kids have some entertainment for us, Austin will be doing Dwight Yoakam, if you haven't seen this, you are in for a treat !!!!! Jaclyn and Abbi are doing "Rocking around the Christmas Tree" and various kids doing "Grandma got run over by a reindeer". The party does until??? Sunday is Christmas at my house for the Austin bunch but everyone is invited. Hope you have a safe and Blessed Christmas. Love, Linda PS You can go to St. Jude.org, and read abt. Somer's dr, Dr.Boop, ( I wonder if Betty was his Grandmother)??????!!!! He is a very good dr.

Linda Austin - Jan 17, 2002

On Jan. 3rd. Somer had brain surgery for the second time, the first being May 2000. To undergo this type of surgery, two times in just 18 months, is unbelieveable. But, the reality is she did, and to see her laying on the gurney, and smiling and waving, WOW, she was wheeled into surgery for seems like forever, and then the great news that it was over and she was in recovery!!! In a couple of hours, we were summoned to the Neuro Trama Intensive care, where we could see Somer everytime the double doors were opened. Soon, someone said the nurses were checking her and Somer's lips were moving !!!! Vicki was asking, "can she speak, can she speak ??? Not long after this they were allowed a short visit, and they rushed thru the doors, while we all craned our necks to see or hear anything. Before long, they came to report that Somer had spoken and seemed to be much, much better than had been expected. We all gave a shout, and it was good to see big smiles on Gordon and Vicki's faces. Vicki had not smiled all day !!! We filled the halls with singing "Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow". Somer came home in 3 days, and went to church and sang to her Lord on Sunday evening, the 13th.
This Tues. the 15th. Somer and Fam went to Memphis for the staples to be removed, Gordon counted 41! WOW! Gordon said the scar is in the shape of a V for Victory! Next Monday, Somer and Fam will go to St. Judes to start her chemo and radiation. This will be extremely tough on Somer, but they must treat it very aggressively because her tumor is considered very aggressive, on a scale of 1 to 4-it is a 4. That doesn't compare to our Somer tho, we know she is a TEN!!! She must stay for 6 wks. on an outpatient basis. Plans are for Vicki to stay (Ronald McDondald House) and Gordon and Miss Abigail to return home for Miss Abigail's education and Gordons job. Barbara, Vic's mom will be at their home to help. Please continue to pray, Gordon reminds us of this: James v. 13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. v.14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church: and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: v. 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Amen.

God is good, in good times and bad!

Just wanted to let all of you know we go to Memphis Thursday, for analysis of tumor. Somer is not feeling well, so please continue to pray for her,(as I know ya'll are). Just pray that we will have the same peace that God gave us through this last surgery. I know God has Somer in his arms and will cradle her through these next few days and weeks, however being the momma, I want to fix this and unfortunately this is bigger than what I can fix. Pray for Abbi , that she will be understanding and in her little mind, she will know that Gordon and I still love her and that she will know that Grabby is going to take good care of her. Although this is hard to go through again, God is still in control and he is a good God, and He is merciful and mighty and I am trusting him for strength for Somer, Gordon, Abbi and myself. God Bless and will see everyone Saturday.

We are FORGIVEN and have a wonderful inheritance waiting for us! Does that not just make you want to shout?! God is good all of the time, but I am so thankful that he has watched over Kathy over the past several weeks and that He chose to heal Somer of cancer. I think one of my favorite songs is " When He was on the cross, I was on His mind". Ok fam that was the end of my sermonett. See you Sunday! I love all of ya'll!

Somer, Vicki & Gordon have arrived in Durham N.C. for Somers' Radiolabeled antibody treatment. We will be at the hospital early in the am for surgery on Thursday morning. Abbi is with Linda and Jackie they are so good to keep her and they spoil her almost as bad as us. (HAHA) Our Prayer is that the treatment will be completed(there is the possibility that is the tumor cavity has a blood supply the radiation may not be given) and is very effective. Praise God for what He has done and is doing. P.S. Somer recorded a album last week if you have not gotten a copy let Gordon know. at Hebrews620@aol.com In His Name Gordon, Abbi, Vicki

Hi Fam,
Things are going great for us, but did want to give an update on the school situation. Looks like Somer is Florida bound. God is opening doors and Somer has arlready been given a small scholarship(every little bit helps!). We are all stepping out on faith that God is going to supply our needs. Just continue to pray, because Somer has to meet some quick deadlines for scholarship applications, letters of recomendations, etc. The school expense is quite a bit more but we all feel God's hand in this move and we are proceeding.
Somer's surgery went well. She has those chipmunk cheeks, but the swelling should go down soon. It thrills Abbi to watch her sister drool on herself.(and she is there for every spill)
Love all of ya'll!

Hello all…this is Somer! Just want to thank you all for your prayers and notes.

I am doing extremely well. In the morning, we are going to the Duke chapel to worship. Today we were able to eat out some. The doctor encouraged me to get up and at ‘me as much as possible because if I do not, I will feel worse because of too much laying around. So anyway, keep up the prayers. I definitely feel them. Next week, at least once a day, I will have a series of tests, one being the "flow study" on Monday. This is where they will inject a dye into the cavity where this reservoir is to make sure it can stay within the cavity. As far as we’ve come, if it can get into the bloodstream, it cannot be done. I really feel it will work, though. Thanks again for your love and support. I feel so blessed to have such awesome Christians as family and friends!!

Love & Thankfulness,

Somer

An open letter on Somers condition

The way I explain this is that we have cut the tree down (tumor recession) and now we are trying to kill the root.

She had 33 radiation treatments at st. Jude and this procedure is designed to but the radiation directly into the tumor cavity. Malignant cancer is so aggressive and resilient that it continues to grow even with these strong treatments. After this procedure Somer will undergo Chemotherapy for about a year with three different medicines (really stong chemicals designed to kill not heal) we are chasing microscopic cells that cannot be seen in surgery, but can rapidly grow into another tumor. Somers' Oncologist said that unless they keep changing the chemicals at a rapid pace that the tumor (cells) would develop its own enzymes to fight off the chemicals. Bottom line is this, malignant is so difficult to destroy that "man" does not have all the answers, so we go to the smartest and best on earth and at the same time trust God to finish the job.

Personally I believe that we must go through all that man can do to show that after all is done God will heal Somer in the end.

Thanks for your prayers, love and concern.

God Bless,

Gordon (glad and proud to be Somer earthly father)for you versus yesterday and last night.  I know that you are going something that is extremely difficult and hard to deal with.  I can only imagine the frustration that you are dealing with and the fact that you want this to all be over with.  I wish that I could fast forward life and show you the exact day that you would no longer have to deal with the surgeries, cancer, treatments, and extended hospital stays, but I can't do that and neither can you.  But I can tell you that no matter how tired you get, that God is their right beside you.  I know that at times you feel all alone, but I promise you that you are not!!!  God promises us that he will never put us through something that we can't handle.  That tells me two things; 1, you have God right beside you to go through this, and 2, that you are an incredibly strong to be able to defeat this.  Also, I know that at some point that you have thought "Why ME?"  Let me give

RE Crumley TOCRISA810

I hope that today has been a better day

You the Hebrew answers....  I don't know...  There that proves that I am not as smart as you think I am.  Truthfully, I don't think that any of us understands why we go through the things that we are faced with, but I do know this.  If we ask WHY too much, then we will lose focus of How we are going to get through it.  Does that make any sense?  Anyway, I don't really know if I am helping, but please know this, that no matter if I have the answer, I will always be able to listen to you.  I will always be here for you to cry on my shoulder, or to complain to.  Hang in there, and remember that you don't have to answer all your questions in one day; you just have to walk the course.

Love, Ryan

Wednesday, April 24, 2002 Duke

Today is the test to see if the surgery was successful. They will inject a dye into this shunt (Rickman) and test to see if it remains in her tumor cavity or seeps into her blood, this test will determine if they can continue with this treatment. If it leaks out slowly however they may wait a few weeks (at home) and try again. Also several procedures are being completed to prepare for the chemotherapy, so they have kept us very busy.

P.S. (when not at hospital Somer is now out patient)

Thanks for your prayers and concern,

May God our Father Bless you,

May He make His Face to shine upon you.

Second attempt/ Duke

Somer and I arrived in Durham NC early this morning to start the Flow study again. Please PRAY that this treatment may be completed this time even though it will be such a large dose of radiation at one time, we believe this will help Kill this cancer.

Somer started the flow today and had two pet scan, MRI all this afternoon, she was tired but that was all. the process is one and a halh days behind but all is well.

5/11/02 Duke

Dear Friends, Somer is still undergoing flow study for the radiation treatment.

The doctor told me this morning that there is still signs of VERY MINOR leakage. He is concerned and considering running another test on Monday. Please pray that the area will be completely healed so that Somer can receive this liquid radiation (brachytherapy). We still have great hopes of this being another step towards curing this brain cancer. Thank you in advance for your prayers. Dear Friends,

Tuesday, May 14, 2002

Major halt on Somer treatment!

The flow study STILL shows some leakage into the blood stream and so she cannot receive this liquid radiation (brachytherapy), besides this she also already has re-growth of the (glioblastoma grade IV) tumor.

The oncologist is suggesting another (even newer) treatment called TP-38. This procedure is also injected directly into the brain but through two catheters (installed in surgery) and this protein-loaded toxin will be given very slowly over a 56-hour period in ICU.

Even though this treatment is very new it has shown great promise because it goes into the blood at the point of the tumor roots. We are hoping and praying that this treatment can be done within the next few days. First, because of the rapid growth of this malignant tumor and second since she is already in Durham, N.C. This treatment is only being offered here and in San Francisco, CA.

Please pray that (if this is Gods will) that the hospital can get this scheduled very soon! They will have to get several test scheduled as well as find time in Dr. John Sampons busy schedule.

Hi,My Daughter Crisa Somer Hood DUMC Patient number cv7191 is being referred to you (Dr. Sampson) for possible TP-38 treatment, we are currently at DUMC. Please give every consideration possible to add her to your protocol.

God Bless,

Thanks in advance.

Thursday, May 16, 2002

By now most of you know that Somer was not able to complete the monocolonal antibody treatment because of leakage from the tumor cavity into the blood stream.

Dr.John Sampson has a protocol called TP-38 and he just called and says Somer is an EXCELLENT candidate for this treatment. However, she cannot be scheduled for about two weeks. Time is of the essence sine she already has tumor growth since the last surgery (4/18/02). She on the way home, and feeling very good.

Today is our two- year anniversary of the first diagnosis of brain tumor.

God has been good and gracious to us each day, please pray that this new treatment can be scheduled and performed before the tumor can grow to large to be treated effectively.

6/3/02 Duke

We have arrived in Durham, NC for the TP-38 cancer treatment for Somer.

She will be admitted in Duke University hosp. On Monday and have surgery on Tuesday (if all goes as scheduled), for the treatment that will last for approx. Three days.

We are staying at Duke Towers our phone number is 919-682-0499, my personal cell phone number is 256-710-9149 you can leave a message on either if we are not available, and we will return your call.

Please pray that this treatment will have tremendous effect in killing this malignant brain cancer. Somer has been so patient but really want to get on with her education in the fall,

And just enjoy a normal life.

God Bless each of you that have prayed and supported Somer in so many ways,

P.S. If would like to have a copy of Somers CD please send me your mailing address.

6/6/02 5:13 AM Duke

At 3:45 this am Somer had a seizure (while receiving TP-38 treatment), she the had another about 45 minutes later. She was immediately taken for CT scan and nothing definite showed up. Seizures may be a side effect of this treatment but the reason is unknown. She is currently resting after being given Atavan? And they are changing her antic-seizure medicine from Neaurnton?, to Keptatol?, All of her motor skills seem ok, she is very confused, can state year but not month, knows her name but not Hospital name. She is resting at this time, and they have resumed the treatment. Dr. John Sampson says he cannot tell us all of the side effect of this procedure, we only know the side effects of Malignant (I hate that word) cancer (and that one too), we must understand that this valley may be deeper and wider than when we first thought. We will constantly monitor her and decide how much of this she can stand (that is also exactly what the Clinical trial she is under is trying to determine), but I must first consider Somers needs not the entire medical community.

Please pray for rest and recovery,

Gordon

Personal notes, Somers’ ICP (internal cranium pressure went to 41 during the first seizure (normal is 0-15) it is currently at 9 at 7:00 am. All other vital appeared normal. The second seizure occurred during prep to transport to ct-scan so all of her lines were disconnected, so we have no record of vitals. The second seemed to last about a minute to minute and a half, it appeared severe to me.

Somer has pulled out of the seizures and regained her memory (except event of seizures) she doesn’t remember them at all. She does know about what happened and seems ok, but is sleeping a LOT.

Please continue to pray because this treatment ( )is so experiential that it is really scaring us,

(Especially Vicki) when we found a treatment that showed promise we proceeded with almost blind faith, but now we are seeing ALL the possible side effects listed in the consent form and information sheet.

6/7/02 Somer had a good night, she slept all evening, is eating now.

Dr.s just came in , she will finish treatment tonight, have pet scan, MRI and be released in morning from ICU. We are hoping to be headed home by Mon. or Tues.

Thanks for all the prayers but donot stop yet cause we still need the prayers and you may need the practice. (HAHA).

Thanks again, Gordon

 6/9/02 DUKE

The first nurse we met was Linda Ward a member at Hope valley Baptist Church, and she really ministered to us while in her care. Linda called here youth pastor and he (Bro. Tim Williford came to visit Somer in ICU, we went to church at Hope valley this morning and Bro. Tim was preaching from John 12:1-8 about Mary anointing Jesus, then he played Somers CD "Broken and Spilled Out" the LORD really moved upon us. Then Linda and her husband (Emmett) invited us to lunch, we went to their Country club and had the best lunch possible. That’s not all Emmett and Linda gave us tickets to the Durham Bulls Baseball game this evening. Remember "Bull Durham" with Kevin Kostner was filmed here. WOW what a day, God is Good all the time.

However, even though we caught a game ball and got several souvenirs they do not compare with meeting with God this morning. Praise His Name!

We are leaving Durham in the morning.

Thanks for all your prayers, Gordon, Vicki, Somer and Abbi

She was interviewed by the nurse practitioner that stated she was very pleased with all the various test performed. But the really good news came from Dr. James J. Vredenburgh he told Somer "you know when asked if this (GBM IV) can be beat the answer is no, you got to make your connection with upstairs (point up), you know that we are looking at a MIRACLE". Somers MRI and PET Scan show virtually no enhancement around the tumor area or the various surgery points.

Although she will continue to go to Duke ($$$$) every three months the only changes and/or suggestion are that she get more physical and mental exercise. Pretty good Uh!

PROBLEMS Somer is experiencing dizziness, nausea, blind spots. Vicki suggest we contact Duke. So, we emailed at 10pm. Duke responds immediatly and request a MRI be taken and sent overnight.

08/12/03 We have some concerns with Somer, had MRIs done today and sent to Duke overnight, think or fear the rickham res. installed June 2002 my be infected. this is the first guess from Duke Drs. early this am.

Will let you know, more as we learn, please keep this in private prayer till we know more ( kindly like jesus telling the Healed ones to keep quiet uh) any way, we are concerned for several reasons.

Please Pray. Love, Gordon

We are just waiting on details as to when. You must realize that we fear cancer agian because only "hot" spots will show up on a PET Scan.

Somer is in good spirits, but a fears the same.

Vicki and I took a little drive this evening and agree that it is hard to remaintain a normal home life with this stress and anxiety that is facing us. Gee I just realized how minor this is compared to what Somer is facing, but I mean for Abbis sake.

Thanks, for your prayers in advance, cause sometimes it seem mine aint being heard.

8/23/03 from Linda

Somer Hood has just returned from her quarterly check up at Dukes Brain Tumor Center.Somer is feeling very well after finishing the TP-38 treatment, she is having some memory (short term) problems, but was released from ICU and went directly to the pool for a swim (amazing) and a walk to clear her lungs. She also went to eat Asian for dinner (you have to be in good condition to eat Squid and ????.

We need your prayers for Somer. She has been getting more symptoms that things were getting worse. She was supposed to check-in Duke University Hosp. Durham, NC this Friday for a biopsy next Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Sunday morning she started vomiting and having seizures and was rushed by ambulance to Helen Keller Hosp. in Tuscumbia, Al. for evaluation. She was admitted and given some test which again shows "enhancement". This is all they would elaborate on, just "enhancement" !! She finally got settled down alittle with medication and rested some but about 10:00 pm, she still didn't recognize her family. That just about tore them up !! But, they realize it may be a result of the seizures or  medication, Somer has just been thru so much already. We are now playing the waiting game. We are not worried, just anxious, because we know this is all in God's hands. Somer would not want us to worry about her, she would say, "just pray". So, let's all do that and "pray believing". We may be going there on Monday morning, it's according to what they find out, but I will try and post up-dates as often as possible. Sincerely, Linda Hood Austin and Family

8/29-30/03 Duke Somer did preoperative registration at duke for biopsy, she was very dizzy at times, and tied easily. However, we did manage a trip to the _ She would sit down and rest ever little bit.

Because of our concerns with her recent changes (seizures, Dizziness, nausea) we really wanted to talk to the doctors about her declining condition. The MRI and CTScans for last week looked to Dr. Aderholt and ourselves that the enhancement has increased as well as frequency of problems. We went down to the _ and waited for a meeting of her doctors to dismiss. Dr. Reardon and Freidman took time to talk to us and shared our concerns. However, Dr. Samson, the doctor doing the surgery was on vacation and none of them were aware of the second set of scans that we sent last Tuesday, so, Dr. Reardon said he would call Dr. Samson and compare the scans (when he found them).

Our concern is that they might be doing a biopsy we what she really needs is another complete resection of foreign matter, what ever it is.

Somer fully agrees that being put through the process twice would be hard, but if circumstances dictate she thinks the full surgery (once) might be better.

Now, all this gets really confusing because Dr. Samson called (from somewhere on vacation) and was already traveling back and is going to find these scans and compare them himself. However, he says her recently had a patient who is under the TP-38 study and has had similar circumstances (enhancement, and rapid detritions of condition) and their condition improved without surgery (except a biopsy) and their scans looked better as well.

So, we are sitting, wondering, praying, hoping, and yes fearing what this might be.

Notice how long this letter is compared to my usual cause there aint much to do but wait and pray oh and research on the internet all the thing we have searched before, I think I might be getting close to the end of the internet. HAHA

Please keep praying,

Sincerely,  Worried, confused, concerned (went to bed at 3:30 am after discussing this for hours) loving blessed parents.

Gordon and Vicki

 8/31/03

I plan to call the "FIX" in the morning and hopefully give a "live" update, (maybe let Somer do it) someone would probably then say it must have been taped. HAHA

Oh well, we know that is what Satan would want from such a powerful witness for Jesus Christ. Besides, that is what this entire battle is about but instead God keeps turning the tables and instead of His witness being silenced, she is traveling all over telling of God grace and healing.

To God be all the Glory. Gordon Hood

I do at times feel like a pawn in a serious game, the game of life.

09/01/03 Duke

I have read myself that they are now injecting the tumors with various agents and then removing it. This allows them to tell how effective the agents are., and how quickly they are working. Dr. Samson thinks that the biopsy will tell us what this mass (size of end of thumb) is and still leave her open to more options, trials or protocols etc.

Somer made it through the biopsy and as first suspected there is tumor. We will have the final pathology report by Friday and Dr. Sampson is pushing for surgery next Thursday. Somer was released from the hospital at around 9pm tonight. She is feeling fine at this time however did suffer a pretty moderate seizure. We will be traveling tomorrow back home so please pray God’s protection on us all and pray that God will put his hedge of protection around Somer not only tomorrow, but through these next few days and weeks ahead. I bought her a large stuffed Cocker Spaniel, and Somer just loved it. However, when she took a nap and woke up a few hours later she did not remember it, she said "where did this come from " so I had the joy of giving it to her twice. HAHA. Her memory improved by evening and we checked out about 9PM and plan to drive home tomorrow.Confusion is being circulated about Somers condition, a preacher friend called tonight and said he heard she was in a coma!

09/04/03  A SPECIAL PRAYER FOR SOMER Go To The Father

Talking to Our Heavenly Father...

Do you have daily talks with Him?

Do you pray to Him on behalf of others?

Do you know that you can...

Go to the Father...

And with the touch of His hand,

He’ll make folks whole again?

I will honestly have to admit (God already knows anyway) that when someone asks me to pray for them, my usual method is to pray little mini-prayers all during the day when I am thinking about it. Guess you would call these "little moments of prayer", because they are usually down to the point and short and sweet, but they are always sincere. They are usually prayers such as this: "Lord take care of Susie, watch over her and protect her" - "Lord, if it’s your will, I ask you to heal Jane" - "Lord, be with her as she goes through these hard times" - "Lord, I thank you for the blessings of a new day!" - "Lord, thank you for my family." - Just little short prayers like these! (Now let’s all be honest - I’m sure that I’m not the only Christian that prays these little mini-prayers!)... We can all be assured that God hears all of our prayers, no matter the size! However at times I do actually take time to remember God’s words to us: "Be still and know that I am God", then I humble myself and get down to some serious praying!

Our family has received word this week that one of our younger cousins, Somer Hood, has had a brain tumor to recur, and we have all been very concerned and saddened as to what the prognosis of this might be. So, I have offered up lots of little mini-prayers throughout each day, but also long sincere, straight from the heart, prayer requests for Somer’s healing. I have been praying and praying for her healing, and for strength for her and her family during these difficult times as I suppose they have silently feared the worst.... that the dreaded tumor in her brain had returned. I have prayed asking God to reach down and touch her, to take his Almighty Hand and remove the tumor from her brain and then just flick it off his fingers for an eternity into Heaven’s skies. I told Him if that wasn’t the way He wanted to remove it, and for some reason it was in His plan for her to endure surgery again, to please give the doctors the proper skills and knowledge to go in and remove the tumor - totally and completely - that every bit of it would be gone from inside her head, and that she would be totally free from it forevermore.

Of course God does things His way because only He can see the final outcome, so I know that whatever method He chooses will be in His divine plan. I truly believe that it is in His plan to heal Somer; it might not be anytime soon and it might not even be in a way that our world knows about yet! It might even be through a glorious miracle - we all know that even in our modern age, God does still perform miracles each and every day!

I am writing this in the wee hours of the morning because I couldn’t go to sleep; as I laid on my pillow for hours and tossed and turned from side to side I prayed for Somer over and over again. First I went straight to the top - to God, our Heavenly Father; after all that’s where we should all go when we really want some answers fast! Then I felt led to pray to Jesus to hear my prayers for Somer and for him to be her Intercessor and go to God on her behalf.

I don’t know why, but I kept praying, "Dear Jesus, let me see your face". I prayed this prayer with my eyes closed, open, closed, and open again, but no face appeared to me. After praying it over and over, I opened my eyes looking towards the dark bedroom wall and maybe in my own mind (and maybe not), I could see a side view of Jesus’ face looking upward, like we have all seen in pictures since childhood. Jesus spoke to me in silent words, "I can’t look towards you because I am seeking my Heavenly Father. I am interceding on Somer’s behalf, praying for Him to remove the tumor and make her whole again. I am praying - "Oh God, Our Heavenly Father, I came to intercede for a beautiful young lady named Somer who has a brain tumor. In one special moment in time you created her and placed her inside her mother’s womb ‘til she was ready to be born into this world - and as she grew she was taught about you, and then one day she gave her life to you... and then one day she surrendered to the call of becoming a missionary to tell others about you, your love, and your salvation. She is such a loving creation, and even while being sick, she gives her life’s testimony and sings your praises every opportunity that comes her way!

Father, so many prayers are coming up for Somer, they are just flying all over heaven! You wrote in your Word - "That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven." Well Father, there is an unending 2 times 2 times 2, and it just keeps growing!

There are thousands and thousands of your children praying for this young soul. It all started a few years back with one earnest prayer from Somer’s dad the day he found out that there was something dreadfully wrong within Somer’s head. His cries to heaven for Somer’s healing came up immediately. Right behind his prayers for help came the prayers of a loving devoted mother, and then there were Somer’s cries and prayers for an answer to what was happening to her. She was so scared. Well, it wasn’t long, only a few moments, until another prayer came up and then another and another, and it has been that way none stop. So Dear God, Our Heavenly Father, I ask on Somer’s behalf that you remove those wicked thorns from her head. Father, I know what it’s like to have them there. I know what a piercing pain they cause, and I know how scary it is. I am interceding for her because so many of her family and loved ones are continually praying and asking me to, and not only that - I love her and I died on the cross for her, and I want her to be made whole again. Dear Heavenly Father, you have all power on heaven and earth, and you have the power to heal Somer of this dreaded disease. So I pray that you could see fit in your plan to remove her thorns and make her whole again... and I thank you Father for hearing my request."

God hears every single prayer that is offered up to Him, whether it be a mini-prayer or a long prayer. He hears our silent prayers and our spoken prayers. He hears our prayers of thanksgiving and praise, and our prayers for specific needs. As Christians, God answers all our prayers, maybe not in the way that we want them answered, and maybe not in our time, but His time.... Never never give up on your commitment to prayer. Pray without ceasing.

Let’s all continue offering up lots and lots of prayers for Somer and her family, and have faith that when we ....

Go to the Father...

And with the touch of His hand

She’ll be made whole again!

Our Father can do it!

Written especially for Somer

Please pray as this special poem/prayer suggest.

09/08/03

The doctors are discussing this and promise to call before noon tomorrow.

Plans for surgery have been put on hold because of this, and thay have also diccussed a new treatment called TARCEVA (we haven’t heard of it either ) may be used instear/before surgery

Somer felt pretty good (at least she looked pretty as usual) but had a rough weekend.

I(Gordon) just got home from the emergency room after being rearended in the company vehicle. My neck is very stiff/sore and right shoulder is hurting, but I am better off tham many.

Today is Abbis’ eighth birthday and we were going out to dinner until I got delayed, maybe tomorrow night.

Please Pray for Somers Spins scans to be negative after all....

God Bless ,

Gordon, Vicki, Somer, and Abbi

9/10/03 St. Jude Somers cancer has changed drastically, in the last couple of days, not only has the tumor re-occurred but it had spread to her spine and through out her brain. This is characteristic for a glioblastoma tumor. The cancer has now began a process that is not reversible.

Somer was taken to by ambulance from Helen Keller in Tuscumbia, AL. to St. Jude Hospital(150miles), after suffering several seizures. She started seizing on arrival in the ambulance and continued for over an hour, and then stopped breathing. She expired on the table but was rescuated (brought back) and stablized with a breathing tube.

09/11/03 St. Jude

She is on very little pain meds, has had no seizures today. As most of you know or have heard, even though the cancer has taken over her brain, God is still in control and Somer even though can’t speak because of the tube making her throat sore, she is still showing us that beautiful smile and spirit. Cancer can’t take that away from her. Continue to pray for us all and especially pray for Abbi to understand.

09/13/03 Saturday from St. Jude Somer had a good day, early this morning her IV line stopped up (a nurse put a socks on her feet and I believe stopped the flow in the tube) in her left leg. So, she nearly went into seizures before they could get another line in her left wrist. Somer is such a hard "stick" and they have used every vein possible. We are talking about putting a deeper line in that will be more stable.

Her short- term memory is usually confused, and her right eye is crossed and drooping. She is eating good and her Uncle Chris Melvin was sent out to find Taco Bell for dinner.

Numerous friend and family has visited today and she knew most all of them.

PLEASE keep us in your prayers because she is improving so well that it is hard to believe that the cancer spreading as fast as the doctors have told us it is (maybe we should not) We need one of two things (1) a total miracle for life, or (2) marvelous grace to sustain my family.

More good news! April Morgan called and told Somer that she has gotten saved! Somer witnessed to her about eight years ago, keep planting those seeds they do not return void.

Also, Somer had challenged a gentlemen (while witnessing to him) to read the Book of John and he sent word by his daughter that he has read the Gospel of John, Praise the LORD!!!!!!

Sunday 9/14/03 St. Jude Hosp.

She will have a Hickman (?) line installed Tuesday, because her veins are too small and too hard to find to continue using them.

Please pray for the current IV line hold up till we can get through surgery.

09/15/03 Monday St. Jude

She ate a cheese-burger and strawberry cheesecake for supper (dinner to the rest of ya’ll) and a whole cup if orange sherbert (her favorite flavor) about four a.m.

Around three she kept thrashing and twisting as in pain, she said she had to go but couldn’t get out of the bed. I finally convinced her to go cause she had a tube in and when she did she wet the bed. So, I asked the nurse to check her tube when they changed her and she said all is o.k., this happened about an three hours later, and this time tried to flush the catheter , finally, about four thirty this evening they flushed it again and got over 300 cc.

That’s just the tip of the ice-burg, cause she went into a seizure around seven a.m. that small vein we were concerned about gave up about nine thirty (somebody didn’t pray as we asked ya’ll to) this a.m. and the doctors and nurses scrambled to get her to surgery and installed a P,I.C.C. line finally about five p.m. she settled down to rest, but hardly is responding nor does she know any one.

So,

09/17/03 St. Jude Somer Hood graduated from this life this morning about 9:30 am. her faith has now become sight, and her walk with Jesus Christ is now hand in hand.

Somer has beaten this brain cancer several times showing miracles from God, and is now victouious in the final battle!

I had written several letter but did not get to send them beacaue here condition detoriated so rapidly.

Somer has set a new standard for all of us who know and love to measure up to, Jesus himself shined through her smile and life.

Visitation will be Thursday Sept. 18, 2003 at Colbert Memorial Funeral Home on highway 43 So. in Tuscumbia, Al. 35674 256-383-2603

Service will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Colbert Heights, burial in Church cemetary (6000 Woodmont Dr. Tuscumbia. AL 35674 phone 256-383-8016)

A Memorial fund is being set up in SOMERS name at Firsr Metro Bank 406W. Avalon Ave. Muscle Shoals, Al. 35661 Question contact Kim Jackson at 256-386-0600 or any local branch of First Metro Bank.

These funds will be used to erect a monmunent at Somers burial site (visable from the parking lot of FBCCH ) as a witness to all generations young and otherwise of a reminder of how one Christian fully devoted to Jesus Christ can influence thousands to walk in faith and purity!

Because of her pure chase life and the new treatments (TP_38) at Duke Medical Center, Somer has become the first patient from St. Jude Children Reseach Hospital to be able to be a full tissue donor, donating her eyes heart valves, veins skin for various grafts, as many as seventy-five individuals will benefit from her awesome giving spirit.

10/01/03 Nurse at Duke Brain tumor center /

Somer continued to give in her death as in her life. According to Kevin Shaw at Mid-South Tissue in Memphis, TN , Somer became the "first full Tissue" donor in St. Jude Children Research Hospital history. Because Somer's cancer was only in her brain and because the treatment (TP-38) that was performed at Duke the cancer treatment did not effect or damage her body as is the case with conventional chemo-therapy.

Thus the new technology is not only geatly increased her survival time, but allowed her to "give back" to others in her departing.

I would appreciate you sending (foward) this to others in the Brain tumor center to express our thanksgiving, and especially to Dr. Reardon and Dr. Sampson.

Lastly, We would welcome any replies about Somer and about her being a tissue donor.

10/03/03 Somer- Sight to the blindJust as Jesus stated in Luke 4:18 that it was his purpose "and recovery of sight to the blind". (NKJV) We received a letter from the Mid South Tissue Bank, Memphis, TN telling us that two individuals have bee given the gift of sight by Somer Hood.

The first was a thirty year old woman (someones mother possible) and the second a eighty three old man ( possibly a grandpaw) both live in Tennessee.

We thank our Lord that Somers giving spirit, and ministry is ongoing and that many more will receive physical as well as spiritual healing through the ministry of Somer.

SIGHT TO BLIND

Praise the Lord, how wonderful! I would have liked to
be there when y'all opened that letter!!!! I know it
was both sad and joyful.

Please continue to pray for us, it seem to be getting harder rather than easier, all the time in this world would not have prepared us for the emptiness we feel daily.

11/02/03

Please send me (email) a mailing address and I will send this to you. This will be a great witness to your youth (or anyone for that matter) as a reminder that their witness does not go unnoticed, and that it does make a difference how you live in private as well as before others.

Plus a live recording of "Amazing Love" in August.2003.

P.S.

Vicki and I are also available to share IN PERSON of Gods Healing and Gace we have experienced in and through our lives for the past several years.

Thanks for your prayers, concerns and support.

God Bless,

Gordon, Vicki and Abigail Hood

To My Children,
Somer walked into the loving arms of our Lord this morning. What a wonderful testimony she leaves for all of us. Such a beautiful child of God. We are so sad she won't be here on this earth with us but so thankful that because of God's gift of eternal life, we will all be with her in Heaven one day. Thanks be to God. With love and prayers for her dear family, Gordon, Vicki and Abbi.

To God be the glory! God is good and his mercies endure forever. He will never leave us or forsake us. I pray that the aching in our hearts be a reminder in our minds of the blessings and richness of our lives by the relationship we all had with Somer. In the twinkling of an eye the Lord set her spirit free and she stood in the presence of the Almighty as He called her by name and was fully restored in a new body. No pain, no cancer, no failing body. Total freedom for this his child. How could we not want that for someone we love. She will be greatly missed and I will continue to hold you, Vicki, and Abbi up to the Lord and I pray that the tears that fall from your eyes be a healing balm to the soul and you can remember with clear vision all the good that was Somer. Love, Linda and Emmett DMC Nurse

Dear Friends,
My thought and prayers are with you all in this time of sorrow. Somer was such
a blessing to everyone she met. I enjoyed her singing so much when she came to
Southside Baptist. I would love one of her CD's if you have any left, don't
worry about it right now.
God Bless
Annette Brown

Gordon,
I don't know when you will get to read this but I want you to know that I will be praying for you and your family. Even though we can rejoice that Somer is already where we one day desire to be, I know the waiting for the glad reunion day will have difficult times. Oh! but can't you just see Somer worshiping at the feet of her savior. May the Lord grant each one of you abundant mercy and grace and may you feel the warmth of our heavenly Fathers love sustaining you.
In Christ Love,

Praise the Lord for a life lived for Him!

Gordon, Vicki, and Abbi,

We sorrow with you and praise God with you. It is 11:15 Thurs. I opened your email about an hour and 1/2 ago. I have called Dianne, Houston, and Bro. Tommy. We were all stunned. Our prayers ar with you. We don't know what our plans are right now. We may can come. We'll just see. WE love you folks!

Tom Miller 09/18/03

Gordon and Family,

Dianne was able to get off and we will leave early in the morning Friday. We will get there about the time or just a little early. We'll see you then.

Tom And Dianne

I know it's harder for y'all each day, it's harder for
me, and I wasn't even around her. I think about her,
and in my mind I just can't believe that she is gone,
and then I think about how hard it is for y'all. You
have been on the go continuously for several years
now, worrying about her, taking care of her, praying
for her, etc., and all at once it stops. That is a
HUGE adjustment for anyone to go through. I know
prayer is wonderful, and the support of friends, and
knowing that God is with you, BUT a good grief support
group would be good to check into - for those parents
who have lost their children. I know how empty you
must fill inside, only from the loss of parents, and
close cousins, but the loss of a child is something
that I feel I would never get over.
AND.... I am a donor! I have felt led for several
years to be one.
We are continually praying for you, and I'm not just
saying that. Yesterday I prayed for you off and on
all day. I was home alone, and you all were on my
mind. We love you!

Kathy Norris

Gordon, Vicki, Abbi... I have thanked God over and over especially during these last few days for the gift of Somer's life and for the privilege of having had opportunity to know her, be in her presence, and within sound of her beautiful voice. What a glorious day for her to go to Jesus' loving arms! Somer's beauty is not only a gift from God, but also a result of two loving parents who devoted themselves to "training her in the way she should go". How true it is that her life is a challenge to all of us! I know that she received that "welcome home, my good and faithful servant". I love you all and will be continuing to pray for you in the days and weeks to come.

Rebecca Michael 09/17/03

Mr Hood, I am so sorry about your loss, but at the same time excited about Heaven's gain. You and i have never met, but your daughter was truly an amazing woman of God and an inspiration to me. I'm a student minister down here in tuscaloosa and talked to Somer frequently online and at different BCM events when she was at UNA. My students and myself will continue to pray for your family. I really wish I could come up there for her body's burial, but it's not a huge deal that i can't, because I know Somer is not there. Thank you so much for sharing your daughter with the world. She was a light for Christ and someone whom i will always remember

travis 09/17/03

Thank you for sharing with us about Somer's graduation. All along we've continued to pray and will continue to do so for you all. God's grace and peace be with you.

We were all very sad in CCU when we found out today that Somer's fight was over. You have our heart felt simpathy. I am listening to her CD and I know that she is singing with the angels. Somer and your whole family was a blessing to me even though I had known you all such a short time. She will not be forgotten. My prayers are with each one of you. Please let me know if I can ever be of help to you. I am also placing a memoral card in our Helen Keller Book in Somer's name, I hope this is ok.

Love & prayers, Pat Nix 09/18/03

I just want to tell you how sorry I am. I know Somer touched everyone who ever met her. We will keep your family in our prayers. The one thing that we as Christians know is that one day we will all be together again.

Russell Cook Whitesboro Tx son of Betty Cook GBM

To Somer's precious family,

Please know that our prayers will forever continue for your family. I was intense prayer for you last night around 10:00 p.m. and just could not stop. I was wondering if Somer was in Heaven, and now I realize that she was.

I rejoice with you that Somer is indeed victorious in battle! She is safe in the arms of Jesus and singing all over Heaven!!!! I can see her sweet smile. How happy Somer is, and she is perfect!

My prayers will continue for you as you both rejoice for Somer's eternal life and endure the difficult "assignment" of missing her. Please know my heart and prayers are with you. We will be in touch.

(Dear Heavenly Father, please kiss Somer for me and tell her we love her and we rejoice in the special light she shined for YOU, Lord, while she was here on earth. That light will continue to shine from Heaven.....her testimony will live on as she lives in Heaven with you. I know you answered my prayer, Father, and that Somer and Barbara are great friends by now, singing together in your Heavenly choir. Help us, Father, as we continue their testimony with ours. Somer is alive. Barbara is alive. We praise you for sending your Son to die for us that we and our precious children could have eternal life! We love you, Lord, and ask that you come back for us soon so that we can see you face to face, and so that we can be together again with our daughters......for all eternity!)

God bless, comfort, and strengthen you as only He can....AND HE WILL!!!!!

With much love,

Linda Plowman Fikes ^j^ 09/18/03

I am so incredibly sorry to hear of your loss. I will miss Somer very much. She is someone who touched my life in a way that will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Aubrey

Gordon, Vickie & Abbi,

I am the pastor of Hope Valley Baptist, Durham. I never met your family, but have heard about you from Tim Williford our associate pastor & Linda Ward a nurse from our church. I have gotten your e-mails and have kept your family in my prayers. Somer has been on our prayer list for some time.

I was sorry to receive the news and I wanted to write because I too know something of what you are going through. My daughter Kaitlin died when she was only 13 months old, that was about 8 years ago, but their remains an emptiness in my heart. Experiencing the death of a child is so difficult because it is out of the natural order. You realize that she is no longer suffering. Somer is now in Heaven with God, but it is so hard for those that are left behind. You and your family will be in my prayers.

Something that was helpful to me was a little book entitled, "When a Child Dies: Stories of Survival and Hope" It is a book with 10 chapters. Each chapter is written by a Christian parent who has experienced the death of a child. For me it was almost like a support group in a book. If you would e-mail me your address, I will see if I can obtain a copy of the book & send it to you.

God bless each of you.

SO SORRY FOR THE LOOS........MAY GOD BE WITH US AS WE ATTEMPT TO COPE....

Gordon,
You all are in our thoughts and prayers. I admire the way you and your entire family and especially Somer journeyed through this difficult time. She is indeed a hero for all of us.
We will continue to lift you up.
Take care,
Eddy 09/18/03

Dear Hood Family,

I am so sorry to hear of your physical loss of Somer. I am thrilled that she is now healed completely forever! I wish that I could be there for you and with you. My prayers and love are already there. To tell you the truth, one reason I am not coming to the funeral is that I have already said my good-bye to Somer in the card I sent with Angie and Kasey last weekend. Another reason is because I want to remember her the way she was when I saw her last (New Year's Eve, 2001). To me, she will always be the beautiful godly woman I have pictures of. I love you all and feel that we have walked here together because of all the email updates you sent. Thank you so much for that. I means a lot to me that you did not leave me out of your lives although I am so far away in New Orleans. I send you my love and the peace of God that surpasses understanding. Give Abby a hug for me. I want her to know that she has not been forgotten or side-stepped in my prayers. May God bless and keep you these next days and years.

In Christ's Victory,

Jeannie and Hungly Luu

Vicki-

I wanted to let you, Gordon and Abby know that our company is one of the major sponsors for this years Relay for Life in March. I have volunteered as the team Co-Captain and plan on dedicating much of my time for this. We had our first meeting today, and I lit a candle in memorium for Somer as well as my mother in law who passed away in April. I just wanted to let you know that Somer is always in my thoughts and prayers, and when I walk at this event in March she will be in my heart as well.

Oh, how I have missed her all day. Had lunch with Vic at J Fiddlers,we joked but were sad. I saw Jamie Carpenter for the first time today, he has gotten married (102503) and he told me how Somer was such a witness to him

Email today

Mr. Hood,

I received the letter along with Somer’s updated CD. I just wanted to thank you so much!!! For some reason everything hit me today, and I’m not sure why. However……….. I just wanted you and Mrs. Vickie to know that Somer meant so much to me. She is a testimony to my life and my families. I know you here that from everyone, but I want you to know that she was very special to me (She’s the only roommate I ever loved, before and after we roomed together

I think of you, Mrs. Vickie, Abigail, and even Somer often. My thoughts and prayers are still with you, and I thank you again for being the parents of such a wonderful inspiration, and light in my life!!!!!

J !!!!!) I have started to write now, songs of my own, and I would love to use Somer’s life in one of them. I think the letter that Somer wrote from the Holy Spirit just inspired my heart. I won’t do it though without your permission, and if that is not ok, then I will understand. I just think that God was glorified in all that Somer did, and I would love the opportunity to share about the part that she played in my life through music.

11/27/03 Hi Gordon, Vicki & Abigail,

Thank-you very much for sending Somer's CD to us - what a blessing!

I am so thankful that I have met you and your family. What an honor to know how sold out Somer was for our Lord and I am humbled to have her testimony on Donna's site.

I will still remember you in my prayers. I cannot imagine the pain and the hurt of losing a child, but I know you folks must be very proud of her! The letter that you sent with the CD from one of her friends really hit home with me. If Somer was my age and in my high school, I would have jeered her and made fun of her also as I was not saved till I turned 35, ten short years ago. Praise the Lord for our Salvation!

And it is so inspiring to see how Somer made such a positive mark on those who were around her - she was truly salt and light! And now, she has heard those words from the Author of life, "Well done my good and faithful servant!"

When I get to heaven, I look forward to meeting the many people that we have meet through Donna's brain tumor and her web site, but I must admit that Somer is one of the first ones that I want to meet when I go home.

Thank-you again for such a blessing. I pray that you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving and Christmas season!

In His Wonderful and Loving Name, Frank Ferrer, Donna's husband

Maybe some one you know could be influenced by Somers life and testimony, send this foward or send me an email

11/26/03 Dear Hood Family:

I just wanted to say thank you for sharing Somer's story and for creating a web page for her. I only met Somer once, but she has made a profound influence on my outlook on life. She made me realize that everyone has a purpose in this life and we are not fulfilling that purpose unless we are doing God's will in our lives. She was a very special person and such a strong believer! I just wish everyone could have the relationship that she had with Jesus Christ. I never got to hear her sing and would love a copy of her CD. Please let me know how much to send you for a copy. My address is 1865 Gargis Lane, Tuscumbia, AL 35674. Your family is in my prayers!

God bless you!  Tracy Hill

12/04/03 A favor to ask!

I have heard so many good responses to Somer life and witness that have encouraged us that I would like to ask (so I am) each of you a favor.

Somer had touched each of us in unique and personal ways that need to be told.

I’m asking you to please write me back a story about Somer. Really for two reasons,

first, maybe this will help us a some way as we celebrate Christmas for the first time with out Somer in our home. Secondly, we are collecting material to consider for a book on Somer life and ministry.

I realize this is a busy time of the year, so do it now before you get too busy!

hello gordon, vicki and abigail,

I think it is great that you are honoring somer in the many ways that your are. unfortunately, i only met somer one time...but that one time i won't forget, knowing what she had been thru at that point in her life and knowing that surely the circumstances of her situation had to always be on her mind. the thing that i remember about meeting her was that she wore a very pleasant and genuine smile. if i had been thru what she had at that point in her life, it would have taken the best plastic surgeon in the world to put a smile on my face.

our prayers are with you during the holiday season.

Rroger and Delphine Ggarner

First of all I just want to say I am so blessed to have each one of you in my life. You are all a wonderful example of Gods love and just a wonderful family. To me my story begins with the fact that me and Somer only knew each other for about 9 months. That right there is a perfect example of how God connects people to one another. It all started on December the 29 2002 when your family came to Spring Creek Church to share Somers testimony. I actually had plans that night because the 29 is one of my friends birthdays. But I had heard a little of Somers story and I just felt that I should be there to hear the rest. As she spoke up there I thought, what a precious young women who has been through so much can have such a positive spirit. I could only pray that if I were in a situation like that I would act the same. I introduced myself after she was done and just expressed my support to her and her ministry. Later that evening I began to talk to her and just get to know her a little. Then I remember like it was yesterday that her and Mrs. Vicki were in the fellowship hall by themselves and I walked through to get a drink. That evening I was going to ask for one of her cds but I had not had a chance yet. They stopped me and said we do not have enough cds to go around but if you are interested we would love for you to have one. I immediately said I would be honored. Her email address was on the cd and that is where we began communicating. We talked back and forth through the internet and then we exchanged phone #'s. We always had something positive to say and I always looked for that day I would talk to her again. I remember at one point she had asked me to pray that she would find that one friend who she could hang out with all the time like me and Emily were. I prayed like I said I would and then she found a friend. Not to long after that this friend did not turn out to be the kind of friend she needed or wanted. I had told her if I lived near her that I would be that friend. The point of my story is maybe I was that friend and the way we were friends is just the way God intended. I hated that I could not see you and her more but I know she was in my life for a reason. In the very little time I knew her I felt like it was a lifetime. Dec 29 would have been a year for us to know each other and I know that day will be in my heart always. I know this was kind of long but I just wanted to share my whole experience with you. Just think if I had gone with my other plans on that night I would have never met your amazing daughter and the outstanding family you all are. God works in amazing but mysterious ways doesn't He. Thank you for letting me be a part of it all. Don't lose faith and hope because you have so many of us behind you always. I love you all so so much and I hope to see you soon. I will never quit praying for you. Love, Jennifer Ingram

GLOLITTLE 12/06/03

As I was reading the following Upwords Devotional and Teaching by Max Lucado I was reminded of Somer and how she lived her life to point to Jesus. He definitely enabled her to do the difficult task He called her to do in His grace. She allowed His love to flow through her in special ways to touch the lives of many. God's thoughts are deep and He remains faithful.

LORD you have done such great things! How deep are your thoughts!
Psalm 92:5

God’s Thoughts
God’s thoughts are not our thoughts, nor are they even like ours. We aren’t even in the same neighborhood. We’re thinking, Preserve the body; he’s thinking, Save the soul. We dream of a pay raise. He dreams of raising the dead. We avoid pain and seek peace. God uses pain to bring peace. "I’m going to live before I die," we resolve. "Die, so you can live," he instructs. We love what rusts. He loves what endures. We rejoice at our successes. He rejoices at our confessions. We show our children the Nike star with the million-dollar smile and say, "Be like Mike." God points to the crucified carpenter with bloody lips and a torn side and says, "Be like Christ."

Hi Folks,  I hope this is what you were looking for. Thanks for letting me be able to share some thoughts. Somer was a real blessing to me!

In His Name,  Frank

Hi Gordon, Vicki and Abigail,

Our paths first crossed in the late fall/early winter of 2002. Somer told us that she had found my wife's web site and felt led to contact us via email. She told us that she too was a brain tumor patient. Her's was diagnosed first as an oligodendroglioma and then it had become a GBM (Glioblastoma Multiforme). My wife was first diagnosed with a GBM about the same time as Somer in August 2000.

Donna & I have always tried to use the experience of Donna's brain tumor to witness for the Lord. Somer & I began to email each other and it took no time whatsoever to discover who was Somer's best friend in the world - a man named Jesus. What a blessing it was having Somer share her faith in Christ with us on the Internet.

Whenever I meet someone with a great story of faith in the face of a terrible disease, I ask for them to write a short testimony of their ordeal. The purpose for their story is to be able to post it on Donna's web site to help encourage others facing the same challenges and for the patient to be able to share their web site with others.

Well, was I in for a surprise when we got Somer's story! We had no idea how young Somer was. All this time, because of her maturity and faith in the Lord, I just assumed that Somer was in her 40's - I never dreamed that I could be old enough to be her father!

Even now, I still will go back to read her words and just be inspired by her faith! I was saved at 35 and when I read Somer's story, written by a woman in her early 20's, I am just reminded of our Father's grace. I am reminded of how He reached down to save a sinner like me to bring me into fellowship with Him - and someday with folks like Somer. I am reminded of how blessed I am and my family to have met Somer during her short stay on Earth.

You folks need to take great pride in how your daughter/sister grew in the Lord and inspired so many people. Somer is truly a Jeremiah 29:11 woman - her purpose was to bring the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ to others and to give hope to so many others. He had a plan for her all along. It may not have been the plan that we would have chosen, but it was His good and perfect plan! I look forward to meeting her in heaven!

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

12/08/03 Santa needs Jesus too.

Saturday evening we were at a local mall (Southgate, Muscle Shoals, AL) having diner, and the restrurants window opened into the mall entrance where Santa Claus (not the real one but one of his special helpers / you know what I mean) was stationed. Abbi went out to see him and told him what she wanted (at least what she remembered to this point) and he gave her a candy cane (by the way do you know the story of the candy cane? Oh, well that is aother story) so Abbi wanted to give Santa a gift also. So, she decided to give Santa a copy of Somers CD with her testimony on it. Santa said no one ever gave him gifts and he gave Abbi one of his "special golden bells".

That night at 10:50 the phome rang and a gentleman said "this is Santa and your daughter gave me a CD tonight and I have been listening to it and was reminded of Gods love for me and how far I’ve gotten from Him, I was even a preacher at one time, and after listening to Somer have decided to turn my life back to God". I talked for a few minutes, got some personal information for follow up and prayed with him.

Please remember as you rush through Christmas, it took a child to remind us that

Santa needs Jesus too!

God bless,

The Name Somer Hood is not as important as her Heart!
The First Time I ever met Somer She was going to sing, I asked
If She was ready? Yes Sir She said, at that moment I saw a determination
that was not the Song prepared to sing, But a heart to present it to
the one who dissevered it.

The Heart of Somer Hood could touch any and everyone that was around Her
it would not take long at all. Whether She would tell you She was
Christian or not, You would know that about Her, The Love Of Christ
could be felt in the soft word the kindness of Her eyes and the wonderful spirit
that would envelope you. I was always warmed to hear how She would
share the Love of Christ to someone who did not know Him.
I realize To care enough about one to share the Good News is to Love them.

It's the Heart of Somer Hood that has never left, That will never leave
And will never be forgotten.
With that I know that I face not the pain of this Christmas nor the void
of a Loving Mother Daddy and Sisters, But I know if it had not been for them
I would have never found a Heart that Loved and was Loved so Much.

May The God our Rightousness Bless you and keep you all.
I prayer Peace and Grace in Jesus Name.
